Caer was born at the Forelin mansion on the coast south of Bantry, Ireland. His mother, Emer, was and is a Healer at St. Mungo’s who specializes in pregnancy and birthing – she barely let anyone near her as she prepared herself for the ordeal. His childhood until his eleventh birthday was sheltered from the outside world – much of the magic he learned before his attendance at Hogwarts was from observation of his father, who was a chemist with the Ministry. By the time he was ten, he could identify most organic chemicals by smell, and he could identify many of the most esoteric potion ingredients (boomslang skin, powdered unicorn horn, etc.) by their physical properties, such as smell, appearance and (to his parents’ great chagrin) taste.

His acceptance at Hogwarts was, of course, no surprise, although his parents did think for a time that he might be better off somewhere that did not breed such rivalry between the students. “Really,” his mother was known to say when she was entertaining prominent guests, “What exactly do they think they are teaching those children, pitting them against one another like dogs on a track?” However, in the end, off to the castle he went for his first year at the age of eleven.

His schooling was nothing short of absolutely ordinary. Because of his experience with his father in his younger years, he excelled at Potions from the first day. And, in his fifth year, the O.W.L. year, he received four ‘O’s – Potions, Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Charms. The Charms mark surprised Caer as much as anyone else – he had held nothing but disdain for a class that taught them what he felt were all but useless spells. However, the spells he felt were useful turned out to be the ones important to the examination board, so he did well. It was unusual for him, being a mostly average student, and his parents were most pleased…that was, until he told them about the two ‘T’s and the ‘D’ he got in Herbology, Divination, and Care of Magical Creatures, respectively. His other O.W.L.s were average (A) – Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, History of Magic, and Astronomy.

Now, in his seventh year, as his N.E.W.T. exams approach, he is considering his options. He could, of course, follow in his father’s footsteps and work for the Ministry, but often finds himself wondering whether something more exotic might be more his speed.

Physically, Caer is a pretty typical seventeen year old. He values physical fitness, so he's trim and slightly built, with moppish black hair that hangs a bit in his eyes. His face isn't soft, by any means, but he lacks the hard edges some people find attractive. He is 5'11" tall and carries an 11 inch wand made of mahogany with a thestral wind tendon core.
